Newcastle United have been dealt a huge blow for the Carabao Cup final with Liverpool after Anthony Gordon was sent off against Brighton in the FA Cup.
And the Magpies will also be forced to sweat on the fitness of Alexander Isak after the top scorer's return to action ended early when he limped off for Callum Wilson.
Former Everton winger Gordon was dismissed for lashing out at Jan Paul van Hecke in the second half at St James' Park, with the scores level at 1-1, and he now faces the prospect of a three-game suspension, which means he will be unavailable for the Wembley showpiece against the Reds on March 16.
Speaking on the BBC's coverage, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson said: "Anthony Gordon has gone over the top of Jan Paul van Hecke.
Gordon knows he cannot get there and he has run into Van Hecke with two hands.
He has pushed the Brighton defender with force.

"Petulance.
It is stupid from Anthony Gordon."
It means Gordon once more misses out on the Carabao Cup final for Newcastle, having sat out the 2023 final with Manchester United, which they lost, because he was cup-tied having played for Everton in a third-round 4-1 defeat at Bournemouth.
“I was devastated last time," Gordon said.
It's totally in our hands now.”
Meanwhile, Isak will be assessed after his return to action saw him replaced by Wilson shortly after Gordon had been dismissed.

Isak, who had earlier scored in the game to open the scoring, missed Wednesday's 2-0 Premier League defeat to Liverpool at Anfield with a groin problem, and having been withdrawn during today's FA Cup tie, the forward will now be checked over with the Carabao Cup final to come in two weeks' time.
